Office Consolidation and Renovation of Chemical Laboratory
East Hills, NY
Pall Corporation consolidated their offices, R&D and laboratories into one building and ended up with an interior the length of three football fields with 35 foot high ceilings encompassing 275,000sf.
The building features a two-story entry lobby (48 feet high) culminating in a “Main Street” type intersection. Glass-walled offices encompass science groups and technology groups amidst open workstations bathed in natural light. Interconnecting staircases connect with conference rooms creating a ‘downtown’ ambiance connected with a café and galleries lit by skylights and light wells throughout the space. The existing 277/480V incoming electric services was evaluated and kilowatt demand loads provided by the local utility company were reviewed. It was determined that the existing incoming electric service capacity would be inadequate to handle the new electrical and HVAC load demands for a heavy fume hood populated laboratory.
New 13.2kV services with 2000/2666kVA step down transformers, 2500A 277/480V main distribution boards. Because of indoor space constraints, the above equipment was installed outdoors in custom made outdoor enclosures. From that point, power was distributed via local panels and step down transformers. A new 350kW diesel driven generator was provided to serve HVAC and UPS loads. The emergency lighting was conected to an existing generator.
