New Katz Women’s Pavilion
Lizardos designed the MEP systems for the 38,000sf obstetrics building addition and modernization project that includes 14,500sf of new vertical expansion and consists of three floors of Obstetrics modernization to the Lippert Building on the North Shore Campus. The facility includes 49 Antepartum and Postpartum Inpatient beds, 28 Nursery beds, 49 bassinet and in-patient room capabilities and a high-tech MEOR mechanical component.
The original building is 59 years old and utilizes a perimeter based fin tube radiation and minimal ventilation system that did not lend itself physically to the installation of an all air from over-head distribution system. Based on this geometry and the client’s goal to not have equipment, requiring maintenance, located in the obstetrics patient room or concealed in ceilings, Lizardos’ design approach located all HVAC equipment needing maintenance in a prefabricated air distribution tunnel and air handling unit / mechanical equipment room located on the roof of the new addition.
